Two concepts that came together to create GENUMIS.
A name conceived to represent the meeting of numismatics, craftsmanship and elegance: transforming authentic coins into pieces that can accompany new stories without leaving their own behind. A coin may have been minted decades ago. It may depict a monarch, a historical event, an animal, a monument or a national symbol. It may even come from a country that no longer exists as we know it today.
Its story does not have to end when it leaves circulation.

A GENUMIS CREATION AT THE SPANISH ROYALTY
There are moments in a brand’s journey that hold particular significance.
One of those moments came in 2021, when a pair of GENUMIS cufflinks was sent to His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain. We subsequently received a letter from the Spanish Royal Household expressing its gratitude and conveying that His Majesty had greatly appreciated the gesture. For a Spanish brand born from a passion for numismatics, that moment represents a particularly meaningful chapter in our history.

A coin can be produced in its millions. A pair of GENUMIS cufflinks begins differently. Every creation starts with the careful selection of authentic coins and a handcrafted process designed to preserve their identity while transforming them into pieces made to be worn. We do not seek to conceal what they once were, but to preserve it: their intricate details, dates, symbols and the subtle characteristics acquired over time are all part of each creation’s character. From our earliest prototypes in 2020 to our collection today, our philosophy remains unchanged: authentic coins, handcrafted quality, distinctive designs and pieces created to last. Every pair represents a meeting between past and present. A different way to preserve history. A different way to wear it.
A PASSION THAT BEGAN WITH A COLLECTION
Before GENUMIS, there were coins. My interest in collecting began during childhood and, years later, developed into a passion for numismatics. It all started with a small box in which different members of my family had kept coins collected during their travels around the world. Those coins sparked a fascination that went far beyond their monetary value: each belonged to a different country, era and story. I bought my first coin album and began organising them. What started with approximately 200 coins grew through more than 350 exchanges with collectors from around the world, eventually becoming a collection of over 1,500 pieces.
Without knowing it at the time, the origins of what would one day become GENUMIS were already there, among those coins.
FROM NUMISMATICS TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Over the years, my passion for coins met another ambition: to create something of my own.
While studying Business Administration and Management at the Autonomous University of Madrid, I decided to explore numismatics from a business perspective. Together with my fellow students, we developed NumisZone, a final-year university project exploring new ways to introduce a traditional industry such as numismatics to a new generation.
The project explored several business opportunities and received an outstanding academic grade. However, its most important outcome would not remain confined to its pages. One of those ideas would leave the drawing board and become a reality. Its name would be GENUMIS.
AN IDEA BORN ON CALLE SERRANO · MADRID
The idea finally took shape during my first professional experience in the financial sector, working at an investment management firm on Calle Serrano in Madrid. In that environment, suits, shirts and cufflinks were a familiar part of professional attire. It was there that two seemingly different worlds finally came together: the coins I had spent years collecting and the cufflinks I saw every day. From that connection came a question: What if a coin could become a cufflink? Not a reproduction. Not a piece merely inspired by a coin. But a cufflink crafted from an authentic coin, preserving its details, date, symbols and identity while allowing it to begin a second life as a piece of elegance. The idea I had been searching for all those years was right in front of me.
2020 · THE BIRTH OF GENUMIS
Having an idea was only the beginning. Turning it into a piece that lived up to what I had imagined proved far more challenging. GENUMIS began taking shape in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when months of lockdown became months of experimentation, learning and constant exploration. The first prototypes were extremely simple: a coin, a cufflink fitting and an idea that had yet to find its final form.
But that was not enough. The result had to be elegant, durable, respectful of the original coin and worthy of everything I wanted GENUMIS to represent. What followed were months of trial and error, experimenting with different materials and mechanisms, discarded prototypes, investments that failed to deliver the expected results and countless hours spent perfecting every detail. Until, finally, the piece I had spent months searching for began to take shape. In August 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, GENUMIS was born.
THE FIRST PAIR
Some creations will always hold a significance unlike any other. One of the first designs we developed was Plus Ultra, crafted from a Spanish coin featuring the national coat of arms. One of those first completed pairs also found a particularly meaningful home: it was presented as a gesture of gratitude to Hermógenes del Real Álvarez, the academic supervisor who had guided us through the final-year university project from which part of this entrepreneurial journey had emerged. It was a way of bringing everything full circle. An idea that had begun on paper could, for the first time, be held in our hands. Over time, Plus Ultra would become one of GENUMIS’s most recognisable designs. For us, however, it will always preserve something even more important: The memory of where it all began.
FROM MADRID TO LONDON
En 2022, la historia de GENUMIS cruzó fronteras. Londres se convirtió en un nuevo escenario para la marca y, especialmente, Canary Wharf, uno de los grandes centros financieros internacionales, en un lugar donde nuestros gemelos comenzaron a formar parte del día a día profesional. De alguna manera, la historia se repetía: la idea que había nacido años antes observando los gemelos que acompañaban a los trajes de los profesionales de la calle Serrano encontraba ahora continuidad entre las oficinas del distrito financiero londinense. Y ocurrió de una forma especialmente significativa para nosotros: de persona a persona. Un par llamaba la atención de un compañero, una pregunta iniciaba una conversación y una conversación terminaba en una recomendación. El boca a boca se convirtió así en una parte natural del crecimiento de GENUMIS en Londres, confirmando algo que habíamos creído desde el principio: cuando una pieza tiene una historia, genera conversación. Madrid fue el lugar donde nació la idea. Londres, uno de los lugares donde comenzó a viajar.

GENUMIS was not created simply to make another accessory. It was created to craft pieces that spark curiosity.
Cufflinks that someone might notice and ask: “What coins are they made from?” And behind the answer lies a story: the country they came from, the year they were minted, the person depicted on them, the meaning behind their coat of arms or the reason those particular coins were chosen. We believe that true luxury does not need to be obvious. Sometimes, it lies in the details that only those who come close enough will discover.
MORE THAN AN ACCESSORY
A pair of cufflinks may be the finishing touch when getting dressed, but it can also represent so much more. It might symbolise a country, a special year, a family memory, a journey, a chapter in someone’s career, a personal passion or a wedding. Or simply a fascination with a coin whose design deserves to continue being admired. That is why so many GENUMIS creations become gifts with deeply personal meaning. The coin provides the first part of the story. The person who wears it writes the next.
FROM OUR WORKSHOP TO THE TAILOR
The evolution of GENUMIS has also brought us closer to a world that shares our appreciation for elegance: tailoring. Over time, we began working with tailors and specialist retailers across Spain, taking our creations beyond our online store. The connection is a natural one. A jacket carefully tailored for the perfect fit, a thoughtfully chosen shirt and a pair of cufflinks crafted from authentic coins all share the same philosophy: It is the details that ultimately define the whole. Today, we continue building relationships with professionals and retailers who share our passion for tradition, craftsmanship and work done with care. Because elegance rarely needs to demand attention. It is recognised in the details.
A STORY STILL BEING WRITTEN
It all began with a small collection of coins. That collection became a passion; that passion became an idea; the idea took shape in Madrid and, in 2020, became GENUMIS. Since then, our story has continued to grow: from the earliest prototypes to a collection of our own, from Madrid to London, from recommendations among professionals in Canary Wharf to Spanish tailoring houses, and from that small box of family coins to seeing a GENUMIS creation reach His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain. But none of these milestones has changed what inspired the brand in the first place. We still feel the same fascination when holding a coin that has survived for decades. We still believe in the value of craftsmanship and continue searching for pieces that have a story to tell. Because true luxury is not simply about owning something valuable, but about wearing something meaningful. Every coin has a past. Every pair of GENUMIS cufflinks gives it a new present. And every person who wears them begins to write the next chapter. After everything that has happened since that summer of 2020, one thing remains unchanged:
The best part of our story is that it is still being written.
