Genumis: Our History
Who as a child has never had a collection? Be it trading cards, letters, minerals, comics, toys, magnets... Collecting is a hobby that a large part of society has experienced on occasion. As a child I was a big fan of Panini football stickers and Pokemon magnets and staks, today these articles remind me of two special moments of my childhood: playing with my friends in the schoolyard and then receiving my parents and grandparents with some gift letters in hand. With this I want to convey that collecting generates beautiful memories: Do these Pokemon staks sound familiar to you? I hope I have unlocked a memory for you!
There are hundreds of types of collecting, including numismatics, which consists of the collection of coins. This hobby arose in my adolescence when by chance I came across a box of coins that my relatives were compiling on their international trips over many years. I bought an album to classify my small collection and I registered in a web community of exchanges (www.ucoin.net), where little by little I made 350 exchanges and in 5 years I expanded my collection from 200 to +1500 coins.
I have always been passionate about the world of entrepreneurship and I wanted to reflect it in my final thesis for the degree in Business Administration and Management at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). With my colleagues, we created "NumisZone" in a thesis to modernize the traditional market for numismatics. NumisZone is a project made up of 5 business areas, of which 2 became a reality: Genumis and my e-commerce www.2euro.es.
We made an important discovery of financial interest: investing in ounces of sterling silver and ounces of pure gold from the American Eaggle Oz collection is historically more profitable than allocating equity in the S&P500 index or the US sovereign bond, and the numismatic collector's item also generates a higher return than the intrinsic material. In addition to being a decorrelated asset that is interesting to incorporate into an investment portfolio to minimize market risk.
The idea of creating cufflinks with coins arose during my first professional experience in a recognized national asset management company, in Serrano street in Madrid, one of the most glamorous streets in Spain and a place where it is common to see cufflinks in the style of clothing of the corporate men. I always wanted to have an entrepreneurial experience and what better than to turn my hobby into a business, I started using my own Genumis in the office and thanks to the support of my co-workers, recognizing the originality and beauty of the product, I decided to take the leap in August 2020 to start my entrepreneurship with Genumis.
It was not an easy road, I spent several months during the first covid quarantine doing constant trial and error work until I achieved with the final product: a real jewel. In the image above you can see how my first cufflinks were created, they consisted of a simple piece attached to a coin, I could not go on the market with that product, I had to create a professional article. After investing hundreds of dollars and endless hours searching for the key, the day came when I could create the Genumis that you know today. In the image below I show you the first Genumis created, coincidentally the best-selling model on the web currently, Plus Ultra, and which were given to our tutor for the final degree project as a show of appreciation for his mentoring.
The rest is a story that is still being written and I thank you that you are on this wonderful journey.
