How are Genumis coin cufflinks handmade?

Many people have ever been interested in knowing the artisan process of Genumis coin cufflinks. In this blog I will show you the recipe!

How long does it take to make the handmade cufflinks? Is it 100% handmade? Is the price of the product justified?

I will detail the process of creating the cufflink: Lion 1870.

Step 1: Buy authentic coins.

The first thing to do is to acquire coins, in the case of Genumis, we buy the coins in spanish numismatic stores, it is essential to give support by buying from local businesses that comply with the law.

Several numismatic and philatelic shops are concentrated in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid.

As can be seen in the image, the old coins are acquired in this way, without shine and no modification in their 150 years of history.

Step 2: Clean the coins.

To present jewelery in good condition, it is necessary to clean the coins and use them correctly. In no case should chemicals and liquids be used, in this way we load the patina of the coins, which is the protective layer that allows their conservation..

Depending on the metal of the coin, it will need to be cleaned with an eraser, jewelry cleaning materials, or a combination of both.

This process takes approximately 20 minutes, the time to polish the coins.

Step 3: Union of the coin with the cufflinks.

The next step is to solder the cufflinks, this step will not go into detail because it is a process that took several months of trial and error to find the key. It is the artisanal secret of Genumis, no matter how much someone tries to imitate the cufflinks, they will probably not get the same result.

The time invested in this step is approximately 10 minutes.

Step 4: Store the cufflinks in a craft box.

One of the great doubts that arose before launching the brand was the box: artisan or industrial? It is true that the industrial boxes of the cufflinks are attractive, however, I opted for the handmade box, with the Genumis logo stamped by hand, to transmit the artisan essence from the product to its own packaging.

In 2 minutes we would have the handmade box engraved.

Step 5: It is not just an envelope, it is an experience.

Once the customer receives their order, they will find an envelope that is sometimes sent with stamps, and that will always include a handwritten dedication signed and personalized for the buyer, a description of the history of the coin that makes up the cufflinks, including an authentic vintage stamp, a Genumis card, the cleaning material to always shine your cufflinks and an eco-friendly bag that includes a stamp with the brand's logo handcrafted with wax.

The packaging preparation time is 10 minutes.

Therefore, an order takes a minimum of 30 minutes of work to achieve this wonderful result.

In the following link I leave you a YouTube video of the experience when unboxing with Genumis:
